The court sentenced the defendant to 24 years in jail and handed him a provisional fine of EUR 400,000 (GBP 333,000), to be paid to the couple’s two children.

The sentence was pronounced on Wednesday, 20th April, following prosecutor Federico Facchin’s request for a life sentence.

The court ruled that the father’s custody of his children will be suspended for the duration of the sentence.

Forciniti hails from Rossano, Corigliano-Rossano municipality, Cosenza province, Calabria region, southern Italy.

He was found to have stabbed his partner 19 times with a knife with a 17-centimetre-long blade.

The prosecutor described him as “lucid” and “cold” and said the “persistence with which he struck her in the head and face” confirmed his intention to kill her.

It is believed that the victim wanted to end her relationship with her partner and that the murder took place following a quarrel while the children were at home.

After taking his partner’s life, the man took his children to their aunt in nearby Pordenone.

He then returned to Roveredo in Piano, disposed of the murder weapon in a bin, and then went to the local police station.

He first tried to convince the cops that a burglary had taken place, but he then came clean and confessed his actions.

He was described by the civil party’s lawyer, Antonio Malattia, as an obsessive and jealous man who harassed and persecuted the victim.

It was not reported if either party can or will appeal the sentence.
