This is the moment a killer whale thrashes around close to the shoreline and scares a group of Argentine beachgoers.

The orca was filmed approaching the coast in the town of Monte Hermoso in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires, and the footage has been widely shared on social media.

According to reports, the killer whale (Orcinus orca) approached a popular beach in the area of Las Dunas and local resident Ayelen said she was with a group of 10 people when they noticed the marine mammal close to the shore.

Ayelen said: “We were swimming when we saw people rushing out of the water and signalling to inform us to get out of the sea.”

In the footage, a man swims to shore as the orca’s fins are seen just behind him.

Ayelen told local media: “We were very scared. We swam as fast as we can, but I got tired. I could not swim anymore.”

According to reports, the killer whale remained close to the shore for around 15 minutes before returning back to deeper waters. In that time, the orca did not attack any swimmers.

Last month, a shark was seen thrashing around in shallow waters close to the shore and it frightened a group of beachgoers in the same town of Monte Hermoso.

The incident was filmed at Barrilete Beach and the footage was later shared on social media.

In the clip, a shark is seen swimming close to the shore as onlookers stand just a few feet away.
