KILLER HOOLIGAN: Jordanians Outraged After Teen Killed 12-Year-Old Boy Over Football Result

Jordanian police have arrested a 16-year-old after he killed a 12-year-old boy over a football match result.

The victim, identified as Hassan Haitham Abu Ramadan, was celebrating his team Al-Wehdat’s victory when the teenager struck him with a concrete block.

The incident occurred on a street in Markah, east of Amman, on Friday evening, 14th October.

Al-Wehdat reached the semi-final of the Jordan Cup by defeating arch-rivals Al-Faisaly 6-5 in a penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw in a match played in front of an empty stadium.

Triggered by Hassan’s loud cheers, the teenager climbed to the top of a nearby building and hurled a concrete block onto his head.

The fractures inflicted were so severe that the boy died immediately.

Public Security Department spokesperson Amer Sartawi said: “The 16-year-old boy has been arrested and admitted to throwing the stone at the victim out of rage from the result of the football match.”

Following the arrest, the teenager was handed over to authorities to be processed.

Hassan’s father told local media that his son died because of a “reckless and irresponsible person who knows nothing about sports and football, except for harming others”.

Al-Wehdat Sport Club issued a statement expressing its condolences over the young fan’s death and added: “The actions of a few individuals with irrational instinctual motives are alien to the authentic Jordanian society.”

Representatives from the two teams visited the Abu Ramadan family to offer their condolences on Saturday, 15th October.

Meanwhile, devastated netizens offered their sympathies – and criticisms – on Al-Wehdat’s post.

Facebook user M. Mustafa Attia said: “May Allah have mercy on him and make him dwell in the highest paradise.”

Another user, Ali Khalaf, criticised the club and said: “For this statement, Al Wehdat should bear the blood of the innocent child. I swear silence is much better.”

Ahmad Qasrawi commented: “A weak statement.”

The investigation continues.
