A babysitter allegedly shook a five-month-old girl so violently that her brain tore.

Carmona-Simbron had only been working as a babysitter for around two months.

Reports said she had no formal training in daycare, nor was she licensed as a caregiver for children.

Emergency crews were dispatched to her home in Taylorsville, Utah on 13th October following a call about an unresponsive infant.

Officers from the Unified Fire Authority attempted to resuscitate little Aitana Ampudia-Aguilar before taking her to Primary Children’s Hospital.

Medics at the health facility in Salt Lake City found she had sustained severe retinal haemorrhaging and severe tearing in the brain.

They told police that she would not likely live past 72 hours.

Astonishingly, when an officer passed on the devastating news to Carmona-Simbron, she remained stone-faced and simply uttered: “Oh.”

Chubby-cheeked Aitana – seen here in this adorable photo – tragically succumbed to her injuries the following day.

Carmona-Simbron claimed to police that the infant had coughed up phlegm or vomit and that she had later turned purple.

She claimed she had attempted to call the baby’s mother, who did not answer, before paramedics arrived on the scene.

Case documents said it was the fifth time Carmona-Simbron had looked after the infant and that the previous occasions had largely been trouble-free.

But Aitana’s parents told police that following one stay at the babysitter’s home, the youngster returned home with a bruised cheek.

Carmona-Simbron allegedly told dad Guillermo and mum Rosario that Aitana had lain down with her face on top of a toy.

But medics later explained that it was unlikely that such an action could have caused a bruise.

Carmona-Simbron was charged with murder on 21st October. She is being held in Salt Lake County Jail without bond.
