A newlywed Romanian man who fell into a turbulent river during a boat trip and got sucked under by the current never is still not been found.
The newlywed Mihai Laurentiu Beuran, 28, left behind his pregnant wife, Natalia Diana Beuran, who wrote on Facebook saying: ” I beg you, pray for my husband, I beg you with all my might, pray for him!”
Beuran had taken a day off following his wedding to spend some time with a friend on a boat when he fell into the Jiu River in Gorj County, Romania, on 6th June.
The newlywed and his friend, who was not named, had set out for a boat trip in an inflatable dingy.
Local news site Atena 1 reports that the pair got into trouble when the dingy got dragged towards the Vart dam by strong currents at around 10 pm.
It was near the dam when Mihai lost his balance and fell into the waters which quickly overpowered him and dragged him out of sight.
An unidentified person saw the incident from the river bank and called emergency services.
Maria Baran, spokesperson for the Gorj Emergency Situations Inspectorate told Atena 1: “The man in the boat [Mihai’s friend] was rescued by firefighters with the use of climbing equipment.”
She added: “The Firefighters did not have much time because it was getting dark so they had no choice but to delay the search for the missing man.”
Baran explained that the search operation resumed early the next morning with teams searching in the vicinity of the dam and the nearby river bed.
Victor Tuhasu, from the Gorj Emergency Situations Inspectorate, said: “Further search activities were carried out in the area adjacent to the dam, but the young man was not found.”
According to the news site Observator, Natalia, whose age was not disclosed, posted a distressed message on Facebook urging her friends and family to pray for her husband’s life.
Mihai and Natalia, who is currently pregnant with their child, announced their marriage on Facebook on Friday (4th June) just two days before Mihai went missing.
Authorities are continuing their search for Mihai.
