An unemployed 28-year-old mother of two has admitted that she is “worried and shaken” after discovering that she is pregnant naturally with quintuplets.
Yanike Piera, who lives in the Brazilian city of Sao Paulo, said her life has changed drastically since learning that she is carrying five children in her third pregnancy.
The young woman is already mother to five-year-old Murillo and three-year-old Isis.
The 28-year-old mum said she learned she was carrying quintuplets after experiencing some bleeding and going to the doctors in her 11th week.
Following an ultrasound and check-up, Yanike then learned the life-changing news.
She told the magazine Crescer that the entire family was taken aback by the news.
However, as she is unemployed in a time of economic difficulties caused by COVID-19 measures, the mother, now in her 14th week of pregnancy, admits that she is concerned for her family’s future: “We are going through a moment of great crisis. I pay rent and we live in two rooms. Honestly, it’s a very delicate and worrying situation.
“I admit, I’m very worried and shaken, I won’t deny it. We know children are a blessing, but they require lots of care.”
To help the young mum, her family has launched a crowdfunding campaign to raise funds to help with the expenses she has in front of her.
The target has been set at BRL 50,000 (GBP 6,996) and the family is suggesting donations of between BRL 50 and 100 (GBP 7 and 14), but are happy to receive offers higher and lower than those amounts.
Yanike explained: “It is a mix of sensations, emotions and fear. We are going through a very delicate moment: high-risk pregnancy, pandemic, sky-high inflation and the goal of this online campaign is simply survival!”
She added: “I am unemployed, desperate and happy at the same time.”
