This girlfriend whose jilted boyfriend hanged herself at the gate to her house has revealed he had told her he would rather die than be without her before he killed himself.
Local media report Byron Nyevera, 32, committed suicide at the gate to his girlfriend Nothando Hlongwane’s house in the city of Kwekwe in central Zimbabwe.
His girlfriend says the pair had begun arguing when he answered the phone to another woman, which “angered” her.
She says she kicked him out of her house but he told her he “would rather die” than leave, which she says she took as a joke.
He then sent her messages threatening that he was going to hang himself, claiming she had left him without any alternatives.
He was then found hanging at her front gate and she says she wishes she could go back in time. The victim’s family reportedly blame her for his death, so she did not attend his burial.
A police investigation was launched into the incident. The body was taken to Kwekwe General Hospital for a postmortem before it was buried. The results of the postmortem have not been reported.
