This is the moment the pilot of a private jet has a mid-air row with a female air traffic controller branding her an “idiot” after his posh jet has a near miss with another plane.

The pilot was then called an “idiot” by the female controller working at the international airport Aeroparque Jorge Newbery in the eastern Argentine capital Buenos Aires.

According to reports, the pilot was outraged when he was beginning his journey to the nearby San Fernando International Airport in the same city and nearly came into contact with an arriving plane.

In the taped conversation, the unnamed pilot says: “We were at 500 feet, sometimes with a difference of 300 feet with the transit (plane) that passed us from right to left.”

The female controller replies: “Yes, correct sir. You are right.”

After asking him to file a complaint, she explained that the incident was due to a large number of flights.

She says: “If you have to write it down, do it. We are inundated with what we have to do in this sector and all the work here at the moment.”

In response, the pilot says curtly: “The truth is, you all are useless. That is the problem.”

The controller replies: “Really? Say that to me in person, please.”

After an unintelligible response, she ends with: “Idiot!”

According to reports, the flight tracker map showed that the two planes approached each other at a dangerously close distance and it was not noticed by the “inundated” air traffic control staff.

They were reportedly only 150 metres (492 feet) from each other when the minimum distance should be 300 (984 feet) metres.

Gabriel Giannotti, spokesman for the Argentine Air Navigation Company (EANA), has confirmed that the incident is under investigation.

He added: “Security in this kind of industry is not negotiated and there are human errors.”
