The daughter of Chinese martial arts actor Jet Li has revealed that she has battled “anxiety and major depression” for a long time and said that COVID-19 “isolation has really taken a toll on my mental health”.

Jada Li, 18, shared her troubles with depression on Instagram while urging her online followers to check in on loved ones during the COVID-19 lockdown.

She wrote: “Isolation has really taken a toll on my mental health. I’ve had a long history with anxiety and major depression, and I’m currently experiencing a pretty bad relapse, something I thought I had left in the past.

“I am lucky enough to have access to professional help. I want to use this space to let you all know that if you’re experiencing anything similar, you’re not alone.

“Mental issues like COVID-19 anxiety are real and valid.”

“I believe in your strength and your ability to get through this.

“Please check in on your friends and loved ones and make sure they’re doing okay because no one should go through this alone.”

According to local media, studies have found that perceived loneliness is linked to depression and even deteriorating physical health issues such as a weakened immune system.

Action star Jet Li’s first role in a non-Chinese film was as a villain in Lethal Weapon 4 in 1998.

He went on to star in many international action films, including in ‘Kiss of the Dragon’ in 2001, ‘Unleashed’ in 2005, and all three of ‘The Expendables’ films with Sylvester Stallone.
