Jerry got the better of Tom in this encounter after the mouse scampered up the top of a wooden pole in the ground that the cat was unable to climb, and could only look on as the mouse balances out of reach at the top.
The amusing stand-off was filmed on a farm near the city of Zhoukou in the Chinese province of Henan, and the clip has been widely shared on the social network Douyin, which is what TikTok is known as in China.
Ms Li filmed the encounter after spotting her cat chasing a mouse around her vegetable garden.
She said the fleeing mouse ran up the pole, which her cat could not scale, as it had no branches.
Instead, the feline perched itself on a fence about a metre below the mouse’s lofty position and a tense standoff ensued.
Ms Li said the mouse would not dare come down from the pole and her cat refused to budge from the fence, and the pair remained locked in a battle of will.
In the footage, the mouse is seen clinging onto the thin pole as its feline foe sits on top of the fence much lower down and out of reach.
The pair looks at each other as Ms Li laughs in the background.
At one point, Ms Li approaches the cat and it looks at her and lets out a dejected meow, apparently realising its prey has got the better of it.
Ms Li said the cat eventually got distracted by something else and the mouse eventually left the pole when it felt safe to do so.
