A jealous husband has been jailed for life for stabbing his wife to death and stuffing her body in a cupboard while their kids played in the next room because she was texting with another man.

Nenad Lazarevic, a 26-year-old Serb living in Austria, was handed a life sentence on 27th September for killing his wife Diana, 22, on 20th March in the Austrian city of Salzburg.

The news site Kurir said that Lazarevic pleaded with Diana not to divorce him to on the day of the murder, and she agreed to withdraw the papers.

However, he decided to check his wife’s phone and found messages discussing the divorce with another man who she allegedly planned to marry once she was able to.

Along with the messages, he also found condoms in one of her bags. It was at this point that he decided to kill Diana.

The court heard that Lazarevic first repeatedly punched his victim and then took a kitchen knife and slashed her throat.

After slitting his victim’s throat, he took the knife and plunged it deep into her chest.

He then stuffed his wife’s body into a cupboard and called a nanny to take care of the couple’s three-year-old and seven-month-old daughters who were in the next room.

The nanny spent the day looking after the two young children neither of whom had any idea their mother’s dead body was in the cupboard.

When the nanny arrived, Lazarevic left the house and turned himself in at the local police station.

Lazarevic was arrested and an investigation was launched. He admitted to the crime and told the judge that he deeply regretted his actions.

The court sentenced him to life imprisonment and ordered him to pay EUR 100,000 (GBP 85,960) in damages to Diana’s daughters and parents.

It is unclear who has been given custody of the children.
