Jailed Soldier Says He Viewed Child Porn To Catch Paedos

A former French-Canadian soldier who claimed he watched child pornography to track down paedophiles has been sentenced to 90 days in prison.

The vigilante ex-soldier, identified as Louis-Pier Senneville from Lotbiniere in the French-speaking Canadian province of Quebec, said in court that he accessed pornographic images of children to catch paedophiles.

According to local media, Senneville had saved over 300 images of young girl, mostly aged between three and six years.

He was arrested at the Canadian Forces Base Valcartier in Quebec in October 2018, and he reportedly told the police that he had been abused as a child.

After hearing the defendant’s motives for accessing child porn, the judge jailed Senneville for 90 days with a two-year suspended sentence, according to reports.

However, the judge also said that he believes in the defendant’s chances of social reintegration.

Local media said that experts who evaluated Senneville decided there was little chance he would reoffend.

The judge said: “He must return to civilian life after losing his job in the army due to his legal troubles.”

The court also allowed Senneville to serve his prison term on weekends so he could continues his studies.

The ex-soldier plans to train as an electro-mechanic to work in the mining sector, according to reports.

Senneville will have to register as a sex offender for the next 20 years.
