A man in Michigan was tipped off to his winning USD 271,601 lottery ticket that he had bought at a local store when his friend called him to ask him to check to see if he had won the big prize.

The lucky winner immediately ran to his truck and sure enough when he checked the numbers, he realised that his ticket was worth USD 271,601 (GBP 240,550).

The big win took place in Bay County, in the US state of Michigan.

Newsflash obtained a statement from the Michigan Lottery saying: “A call from a friend had a Bay County man running to his truck to find out if he was the lucky winner of a USD 271,601 Fantasy 5 jackpot from the Michigan Lottery.

“The lucky player, who chose to remain anonymous, matched the Fantasy 5 numbers in the Sept. 7 drawing to win the big prize: 14-19-21-34-36. He bought his winning ticket at Larry’s Corner Lounge, located at 101 West Third Street in Pinconning. Pinconning is about 35 miles north of Saginaw.”

The winner, who has chosen to remain anonymous, said: “I got a call from my co-worker the day after the drawing asking me if I had bought a ticket at Larry’s.”

He added: “He told me a Jackpot winning ticket had been bought at that store, so I went running to my truck to grab my ticket. I looked my ticket over, and I couldn’t believe I was holding the winner!”

The lucky winner has reportedly claimed his big prize at the Michigan Lottery headquarters.

The Michigan Lottery said: “With his winnings, he plans to pay bills and then save the remainder.”
