The victim has been named as Antonino Campo and he died in the tragic accident in the commune of Acate, in the south of Sicily, in the southern Italian province of Ragusa.

The OAP had been doing DIY projects at home using an electric power drill, the make and model of which have not been named.

He had been wearing a scarf around his neck which became entangled in the drill, causing it to form a tight knot that suffocated him to death as the power drill head spun round.

Antonino’s wife, who has not been named and who was also at home, only realised what had happened when it was already too late, according to local media.

Antonino’s body was taken for autopsy and the coroner ruled that the death was an accident.

The OAP’s body was then returned to his family for the funeral.

Antonino’s funeral took place on Wednesday, 15th March at the Madre di Acate Church in Acate.
