Sagar Ebrahimi, 41, was one of 40 people reportedly arrested at their homes in Ekbatan, Tehran, during a mass raid on Thursday, 15th December.

Sources told independent media how the detainees were led away from their homes with bags over their heads so they could not be identified.

A relative told independent media how plainclothes officers had threatened Sagar’s parents when they arrested Sagar at her family home at 5am.

The relative said: “The family has been told not to inform anyone, not even the rest of the family, of Sagar’s arrest, nor to report it to the media.”

The source added: “These people did not show a warrant to enter the house and did not show their identification cards, but from their appearance and the conversations they had…it was clear what they had come for.”

The source also said the officers had told Sagar’s parents they were not allowed to hire a lawyer until the officers themselves said so.

Sagar was reportedly taken to be interrogated, where she was given a number of documents and ordered to sign them all.

During a search of the family home, the officers allegedly turned the place upside down before seizing a number of items including laptops and mobile phones.

The source said of Sagar’s parents: “They are very cautious and very scared. Currently, all members of Sagar’s family are in a state of silence.”

Sagar is a social sciences graduate and has three sisters. She currently works as an administrator.

She had allegedly never gone to a street protest out of fear she would be beaten by security police.

Independent media reported that the reason Sagar was arrested was because she and others had been collecting money to buy medical equipment and supplies.

Their collections were reportedly destined for locals who had been injured during street protests.

However, the formal charges on which she is being detained are unknown.

In a seconds-long call, Sagar told her family she was being held in the notorious Evin Prison, where dissidents are said to suffer serious human rights abuses.

However, her family is unsure if she is really being held there, as her sister was turned away when she went there and asked to see Sagar.

Protests broke out in Iran on 16th September following the fatal beating of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini by morality police for wearing her hijab “improperly”.

At least 469 protesters have been killed, while 39 are at risk of execution or death sentences, according to independent estimates.

As many as 18,210 protesters are believed to have been arrested.
