These shocking videos show how the protests in Iran have apparently targeted police officers with footage apparently showing officers bloodied and injured in a destroyed patrol car.

Another video reportedly taken following clashes on the outskirts of the Iranian capital Tehran shows a police station on fire and blazes on a main street.

The violence erupted when people gathered on the streets to commemorate the 40th day after the death of 22-year-old Mahsa Amini who died after being arrested by morality police for failing to wear a hijab.

The 40th day after someone’s death is a tradition in Shiite Islam and is usually marked by public mourning.

The protests have largely been marred by excessive violence from police including video footage in which one unarmed man was beaten on a pavement, run over by a motorbike and shot at point-blank range.

Today’s incident, which happened as people gathered in the town of Karaj just outside Tehran, appears to show that the tide is now turning, with the protests becoming more violent.

As the violence grew, helicopters reportedly flew overhead, dropping flash grenades to try to disperse the crowds.

Iranian forces have been cracking down on waves of civil disorder following the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, who was on a visit to Tehran when she was arrested by morality police, accused of violating hijab rules on 13th September.

She was allegedly beaten while in custody and spent the following days in a coma in the hospital before succumbing in the ICU on 16th September.

The clinic where she was treated said in a now-deleted social media post that she had been admitted brain-dead.

Alleged medical scans of her skull leaked by hackers showed that she had suffered bone fractures, haemorrhages, and brain oedema.

Independent Iranian media have claimed that Mahsa’s medical records showing her history of heart disease were faked by the Iranian government.

Numbers differ regarding how many people have been killed since the protests began.

It is understood that over 12,500 people have so far been arrested.
