The Shah Cheragh mosque massacre claimed the lives of at least 13 people in Shiraz, southern Iran, on 26th October, with this chilling footage showing a gunman opening fire on civilians inside the building only emerging in Iranian media now.

The shocking images show a lone gunman – one of three attackers – carrying what appears to be an AK-47 assault rifle and spotting a group of people hiding in the mosque – a Shia pilgrimage site – before walking away, but he then returns and opens fire on them.

Two attackers were reportedly arrested while a third is currently on the run, according to Aljazeera, with other reports stating that there was only one attacker.

The Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack, with Iranian authorities condemning the killings and accusing people protesting the death of Mahsa Amini of “paving” the way for them to happen.

The Iranian semi-official Tasnim News Agency said that children were among the victims.

Ali Asghar Lori Goyini, 8, was one of the victims in the mosque shooting.

Ali was at the mosque with his father and his younger brother Ahura Lori Goyini.

The grieving dad, named as Abbas Lori Goyini, told local media: “I made the children lie on the ground and threw myself on top of them so that they wouldn’t get shot.

“That b*stard saw us and started shooting. Hey, I was yelling, don’t hit him, it’s a child, don’t hit him!

“But he fired anyway. My eldest son raised his head from under my body for a moment to see what was happening when he was shot.”

Ali was one of six pupils at a school in the small village of Chah Sorkhi, in Shiraz County, in Fars Province. He has now been buried and now there are only five pupils left in his class.

Iranian forces have been cracking down on waves of civil disorder following the death of Mahsa Amini, 22, from Saqqez, Kurdistan Province, who was on a visit to Tehran when she was arrested by morality police, accused of violating hijab rules on 13th September.

She was allegedly beaten while in custody and spent the following days in a coma in the hospital before succumbing in the ICU on 16th September.

The clinic where she was treated said in a now-deleted social media post that she had been admitted brain-dead.

Alleged medical scans of her skull leaked by hackers showed that she had suffered bone fractures, haemorrhages, and brain oedema.

Independent Iranian media have claimed that Mahsa’s medical records showing her history of heart disease were faked by the Iranian government.

It is understood that over 12,500 people have so far been arrested.
