This young woman police officer who was a social media influencer and role model for other women wanting a professional career has been killed by her husband, with their kids now orphans after he committed suicide.
The tragic events occurred in the city of Ibotirama, in the northeastern Brazilian state of Bahia on Monday, 5th October.
According to national newspaper G1, the attacker, who was also a police officer, killed his wife Sylvia Rafaella Goncalves Pereira, 38. and then took his own life.
Rafaella had more than 67K followers on Instagram, where she would share photos and videos depicting life as a female police officer.
According to G1, the police department has confirmed the death of the female officer at the hands of her husband officer Edson Salvador Ferreira de Carvalho, 33, although they did not detail how she was killed.
The city’s Civil Police said the couple has two daughters aged three and seven.
They were at their home with them when the incident happened, although, there is no further information about whether they witnessed the murder of their mother and suicide of their father.
According to Police, the man, identified as Ferreira de Carvalho, was stationed at the Specialised Independent Policing Unit (CIPE), and the woman belonged to the 28th Independent Police Company (CIPM / Ibotirama).
The police also reported that in July this year, Edson was arrested for domestic violence. After that, a restraining order was issued against him, although, there are no further details as to whether the measure was still in effect or if they had been adhering to it.
The bodies of Rafaella and Edson were reportedly sent to forensics at the Technical Police Department (DPT) of the nearby city of Bom Jesus da Lapa.
The case remains open and is being investigated by police.
