Indonesian Woman Acquitted Of Nagging Her Drunk Ex Hubby

An Indonesia court has acquitted a woman accused of overly nagging her often drunk ex-husband.

Nengsy Lim, also known as Valencya, was facing 12 months in prison for scolding her ex-husband, who originally comes from Taiwan and later became an Indonesian citizen, because he was frequently drunk.

However, the Karawang District Court in the Indonesian province of West Java said there was no evidence the defendant carried out ‘psychological violence’ on her former partner.

Valencya was charged with psychological violence and took to the stand in a case that had attracted nationwide coverage, however she was finally acquitted by the judicial authorities.

Accused of nagging her ex-husband because he was allegedly often drunk, head judge Muhammad Ismail dismissed the charge against the defendant and ordered the restoration of her dignity.

The criminal case against the defendant went viral in Indonesia last month, leading to netizens and feminist groups supporting Valencya and calling on the judicial authorities to acquit her.

An online petition with the hashtag ‘Save Valencya’ was widely circulated on social media.

According to reports, Valencya was visibly emotional after being acquitted, and she thanked her supporters for signing the petition.

She said: “Without the support from the public, I can’t imagine what would’ve happened to me.”
