Footage has emerged of an unusual mutant calf born with two heads and four eyes that is still alive.

The otherwise healthy young calf was born to a cow in the town of Yangdachengzi in Siping City in north-eastern China’s Jilin Province.

Video circulating on social media shows the calf lying on a straw mat inside a farmer’s barn, appearing to be lively though not yet able to stand.

Striking are its two heads and four eyes, all of which appear to be functioning normally.

In the footage, the mutant calf can also be seen with two mouths but only two ears – one on each of its two heads.

The double-headed calf is believed to be the result of a genetic mutation developed during the embryonic stage of development.

Reports say the animal was born on 2nd December, but it is still unclear how long it has survived for.

It has unsurprisingly become the talk of the town, with reports saying villagers have been eagerly documenting the unusual calf.

However, social media users say the prospects of a mutant animal surviving are low.

Netizen ‘Changchun Fengxun’ wrote: “As the English saying goes: ‘Two heads are always better than one.’”
