The cute husky whose owner was selling cupcakes to pay for its chemotherapy has sadly died before receiving the treatment.

Husky owner Veronica Yoselin Martinez Macias, 24, made headlines after netizens shared how she had set up a cupcake stand in a square called Plaza Zaragoza in the city of Hermosillo in the state of Sonora in north-western Mexico.

Her idea was to pay for her husky Max’s treatment while they waited for biopsy results to determine if the lumps the dog had on its body were malignant.

The dog’s owner has now announced on social media that the dog has died.

Martinez Macias wrote on Sunday: “Unfortunately Max died this morning. He will have a necropsy done to determine the cause of death and then we will take him to a crematory for pets.”

She added: “It is hard news but what gives me some comfort is that these past three weeks Max knew true love and he did not die cruelly in the place where he lived before. The vet and I did everything we could.”

Martinez Macias reportedly adopted Max a few weeks ago from a man who sold some birds to her mother.

Martinez Macias had told local media he had a lump in his neck that was thought to be an infection and it became smaller after treatment, but then spread. The husky was suspected to be suffering from neoplasia, an abnormal and excessive growth of tissue that can form potentially malignant tumours in the body.

The animal lover who works as a pet hairdresser and has a three-year-old child then started to sell cupcakes in the street at the weekend to pay for the treatment expenses.

The woman also wrote on Facebook: “I am grateful for all the support and love that I received from all parts of the world.”
