A husband in Brazil has smashed up his wife’s beauty salon because he did not like what she had cooked for lunch.

Washington Nunes de Almeida, 28, vandalised 32-year-old Patricia Goncalves Ferreira’s beauty salon in the Brazilian municipality of Aparecida de Goiania on 22nd March.

He carried out his wrecking spree in plain view of the couple’s three-year-old son following an argument that started when Patricia revealed the only food she had at home was mashed potatoes.

According to Patricia, her husband woke up at lunchtime and flipped when she told him what was on the menu, causing him to smash her mobile phone in addition to her work studio that was located nearby.

She told local media: “He saw there was only mashed potato to eat. He thought I hadn’t made anything else because I didn’t want to, but I made everything there was to make.”

The suspect was arrested at the scene after a neighbour heard the noise and called the cops.

He was taken to the local police station but was released after posting bail. The amount he paid has not been divulged.

Patricia told local media that her husband had become particularly aggressive during the last year of their three-year marriage.

She even filed a police report against him in February, saying: “We started to argue because he kept on swearing at me, offending me, bad-mouthing me. Very loudly. Everyone could hear.”

A restraining order has been taken out against the suspect, and he must leave the house the couple shares.

The suspect did not physically attack the victim. However, he was verbally aggressive and caused material damage, the value of which will be determined.

Chief investigator Moacir Filho is questioning witnesses and the couple’s neighbours as part of the ongoing investigation.

He told local media that he has not encountered anything so far that would allow him to request the suspect’s preventive detention.

The suspect could face criminal charges of damage and insult.
