A husband has allegedly killed his wife, both seen here in this smiling photo, with a gun before turning the firearm on himself.

The incident took place in Karacabey, which is a town in the province of Bursa in the region of Marmara in north-western Turkey, and the husband is now in intensive care in a vegetative state after medics declared him brain dead.

Orcay Korku, 35, who worked as a security guard at a private bank, and his wife Gozde Korku, 31, suddenly started arguing on the day of the incident for reasons unknown.

The man allegedly shot his wife with a single shot from his firearm before turning the gun on himself in an attempt to put an end to his life.

Neighbours went to his apartment after hearing the sound of gunfire and alerted the police and emergency services, with police vehicles and an ambulance being dispatched to the scene.

Paramedics were only able to pronounce Gozde Korku dead at the scene, and Orcay Korku, who was seriously injured, was first transferred to Karacabey State Hospital and then to Bursa City Hospital.

Medics declared him brain dead, but he is being kept in intensive care in a vegetative state, according to local media, who also reported that both Orcay and Gozde had previously been married to other people and both had children from their first marriages.

There are currently no further details about the incident and the authorities are investigating the shooting.
