This is the moment a couple in a small village in Belarus are shocked to see a huge elephant walking along the roadside.
The incident was filmed in the village of Leskovo in the south-western Belorussian region of Brest and was later shared on social media.
The stunned couple told the local police that “an elephant is walking along the unmade road in the village of Leskovo”, according to Olga Chemodanova, spokesperson for the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Belarus.
She added: “There is an area for animals awaiting customs clearance near the village.”
According to local media, the police discovered that the elephant belonged to the Belarusian circus ‘Divo’ when a worker reported that it broke through a hedge while grazing and escaped along the road.
The local authorities arrived on the scene and captured the large mammal before returning it, according to reports.
The elephant is reportedly still waiting for customs clearance in the enclosure from where it escaped.
In the video footage, the elephant is seen eating grass by the roadside as the filming couple stop their car next to it.
At one point, the woman gets out of the vehicle to pose close to the escaped animal. The couple then return to their car and drive off.
