The nursery school at the centre of a shocking child abuse case where one of the carers allegedly smothered a child – as seen in this clip – has been closed.

The move comes after an investigation brought a string of other allegations to light.

The footage was shot at the nursery school in the city of Temirtau in Kazakhstan which is located in the countries Karaganda region.

The teacher, identified as 50-year-old Umit Permanova claimed to have only been trying to “calm down” the baby when he had refused to sleep during the kids regular afternoon nap session.

The video footage however shows the blanket pulled tightly over the head of the child reportedly aged 18 months with the older woman sitting on it and keeping her leg on the blanket to keep it in place.

When arrested, she claimed that the child had been really annoying and was making her both tired and nervous because she was naughty, refused to go to sleep when she was supposed to and risked waking up the other children.

It was never revealed why a second carer who was in the room filmed the incident, but did nothing to intervene. However the video that she shot ended up on “Vkontakte”, the Russian Facebook, where somebody familiar with the nursery school recognised the location and reported it.

Head of the Department for control in the field of education of the region Sanat Musin said that the woman had been appropriately dealt with saying: “A lawsuit was filed in a specialised administrative court.”

However there was public outrage when it was revealed this had simply been a fine and community service instead of a jail term.

In addition, other allegations of abuse then came to light which have now been investigated by police, and it has been confirmed that as a result of this the entire nursery school has been closed.

Officials said the nursery school had also been opened illegally, and they fined the owner, who was not named, 60,000 KZT (120 GBP).

The parents of the child – named in local media as Nana – who was suffocated said however it was too little too late, saying that their child was often distraught and it was only when they saw the footage that they realised why.

Nana’s grandmother said: “What about our child? Now it’s all out, I’m advised to see a psychologist, but how can I afford it? I don’t know how she’s going to get over what happened there without professional help. She still wakes up screaming at night.”
