This is the shocking moment a 35-year-old worker is run over and killed by a steamroller at a building site in Brazil.

The tragic accident, reportedly caused by the victim failing to hear the modern, low-noise steamroller approaching, took place at a construction site on Mamore Avenue in the city of Porto Velho in the Brazilian state of Rondonia.

The victim has been named as 35-year-old worker Edmar de Oliveira Campos from the municipality of Ouro Preto do Oeste in Rondonia. He was killed during a road resurfacing project on Mamore Avenue.

In the footage, De Oliveira Campos is seen standing on a newly-laid section of road as a fast-moving steamroller approaches from behind.

He inadvertently steps out in front of the vehicle and only notices its presence when it is already upon him.

He turns and runs in a straight line, but the fast-moving vehicle catches up to him and the front and back rollers crush his body.

The driver is then seen holding his head in his hands in shock as several colleagues rush over to the fatally-injured worker.

The Government of Rondonia and State Department of Highways and Transport (DER) confirmed the incident and said they would provide all the necessary support for the victim’s family, including counselling and funeral costs.

The DER said: “The Department of Highways and Transport (DER) confirmed the fatal accident that occurred this Thursday (27) at around 2pm in the (state) capital Porto Velho. According to information, the accident occurred on Mamore Avenue in the East Zone where Edmar de Oliveira Campos, a 35-year-old employee, unfortunately died due to an accident at work.”

The victim reportedly failed to hear the steamroller approaching as it was a modern, low-noise model.

The steamroller driver, seen in shock in the footage, faces a charge of vehicular manslaughter, according to reports.
