A new mum who was recently released from psychiatric care after she was ruled not dangerous has been arrested after she grabbed another woman’s baby in the maternity ward and threw it out the third-floor window.
The horrific incident happened in the city of Sterlitamak which is the second-largest city in the Republic of Bashkortostan in Russia.
The unnamed 29-year-old mother had been admitted to the maternity hospital No. 1 in the city to have a baby on the 16th of August.
But after giving birth by a cesarean section at 6 PM, she was later seen walking over to another woman in the ward where she then picked up her baby, and went to the window where she then threw it out.
The baby died from the injuries sustained in the fall.
The incident was reported by the press service of the Investigative Directorate of the Investigative Committee for the Republic of Bashkortostan.
It is not known what made the 29-year-old woman commit this crime but a statement by the Investigative Directorate said: “At present, a number of investigative and operational measures has been started to establish all the circumstances of the crime, as well as the reasons and conditions that contributed to its commission.
“Investigative actions are underway in relation to the suspect, the issue of choosing a preventive measure in the form of detention is being decided. ”
The investigation of the criminal case is under the control of the leadership of the Investigative Department of the Republic.
Local media reported that the woman had previously spent some time in a psychiatric hospital but had later been released after it was concluded that she did not pose a danger to society.
They also reported that both women had undergone cesarean sections a couple of hours previously before the alleged attacker approached her neighbours baby and threw it out the window.
Her child has been taken into care.
