This is the moment a nursing home worker assaults an elderly woman while her colleagues laugh and cheer.

Two individuals have been arrested after an elderly woman who suffers from Alzheimer’s was filmed being bullied and slapped in a private old age home.

This occurred at the Orenda nursing home in the city of Peja in Kosovo on Saturday, 29 October, according to local media reports.

In the video, a robust young nurse can be seen pushing the frail and elderly woman against a wall.

She then slaps the senior citizen who begins to cry, which appears to amuse both the nurse and her colleagues.

In an attempt to defend herself, the elderly woman tries to push the brutish nurse away with her feet.

The cruel-hearted nurse then knees the disorientated old woman as she holds onto her wrists and pins them against the wall.

The senior citizen has now left the old age centre following a video of the incident being shared online, according to her son-in-law, Ezen Vala.

He told local media that his mother-in-law suffers from Alzheimer’s and that family members were unaware that she was being abused in a nursing home that was paid EUR 650 (GBP 562) a month to care for her.

In addition to the two nurses known as A.P. and A.R who have been arrested on suspicion of “having committed the crime of violence”, a third individual was arrested after reportedly filming the abuse, according to a spokesperson for the Basic Prosecutor’s Office in Peja.

The Minister of Justice, Albulena Haxhhiu, told local media that the recent case of abuse in an old age home is unlikely to be a standalone incident and that authorities and families in Peja should remain vigilant.

She added: “Citizens should cooperate with the institutions in case of suspicions about the mistreatment of family members in the old people’s home in Peja, or even in other care centres for these categories.

“The investigations must be deepened.

“Also, the management must account for the mistreatment of citizens in those premises.”
