This is the moment a makeshift rescue team lift a fully-grown cow out of a narrow 30-foot-deep pit after the animal fell in.

The footage, shot in the city of Ratia in the district of Fatehabad located in the northern Indian state of Haryana shows a group of around 10 men standing guard as an electric crane hoists the startled beast from the pit below.

Moments later, the frightened cow can be seen thrashing around in the rescue harness after being lifted to the surface.

Later in the clip, we see that an electricity pole and a motorcycle have been damaged next to the rescuers.

Rescuers asked the crowd of onlookers to stay put and watch the cow as they called the power department to ask for the electricity in the area to be shut down as a precautionary measure.

The incident happened after the local community dug a pit for a community toilet, according to local media.

A cow was grazing in a nearby field and managed to somehow fall down the narrow hole.

Luckily, its owner went looking for the missing cow and discovered that it had ended up at the bottom of the pit.

He summoned friends and locals to the scene and a crane was used to lift the cow out of the deep hole.

According to local media, the crane lowered a man down who secured a makeshift harness under the animal’s front legs so that it could be lifted out.

In many parts of India, cows are considered sacred and it is forbidden to kill them or eat their meat.
