This is the shocking moment gunmen kill two bodyguards as they attempt to assassinate a Mexican prosecutor in a restaurant.

The incident was filmed near the city of Pachuca in the central Mexican state of Hidalgo while Tecamac Prosecutor Joel Sanchez Bravo was dining with two bodyguards.

In the video, two men sitting near the restaurant entrance get to their feet and casually walk over to a nearby table where Sanchez Bravo and his bodyguards are sitting.

The gunmen then take out their weapons and shoot repeatedly at point-blank range before fleeing the scene.

In the background, staff members are seen running for cover to avoid the hail of bullets.

According to local media, the assassination attempt claimed the lives of both bodyguards but did not kill Sanchez Bravo.

A statement released by the Attorney General of Mexico said: “Unfortunately, two employees of this office lost their lives. The prosecutor was taken to hospital for medical care as he was injured in the incident.”

Local media said that the police have already made one arrest, however they have not released the suspect’s identity.

The motive for the alleged assassination attempt is currently unknown.

The investigation is ongoing.
