This is the moment two men on a motorbike and sent flying in a head-on crash with a car with a suspected drink-driver behind the wheel who then fled the scene without helping them.

The footage shows the bike travelling down a street when the car suddenly comes into view.

They can be seen in the footage, which was recorded by a security camera, heading straight for the bike, with the rider trying to dodge the car but he and his passenger are hit head-on by the vehicle and sent flying into the air before landing in a heap.

The incident took place in the city of Acopiara, which is located in the north-eastern Brazilian state of Ceara, on the afternoon of Saturday, 10th December.

Despite the force of the collision, both of the people on the motorbike survived and were hospitalised with unspecified injuries.

The police said that they believed the driver of the car was drunk at the time and said they had then fled the scene without helping the two victims.

The authorities said that they had launched an investigation for culpable bodily harm during a traffic incident, suspicion of driving under the influence and failing to render assistance.

The police said: “The case was registered at the Regional Police Station of Iguatu, a unit on duty in the region, and was later transferred to the Municipal Police Station of Acopiara, which will continue the investigations.”

It was unclear if any arrests had been made at the time of writing.
