This is the nail-biting moment a young boy straddles a flimsy balcony rail above a 75ft drop from an apartment block in eastern China.

The high-rise horror was captured on video by passer-by Ms Zuo and her husband as they walked past the building in the city of Xuancheng, in the Chinese province of Anhui.

In the footage, the boy has already swung one leg over the rail and appears to be trying to get into the fifth-floor apartment next door.

Ms Zuo told local media that her husband was concerned about the boy’s safety and immediately yelled at him to get back inside his home, before entering the property to contact his parents.

As the boy returns to his apartment, the open sliding windows next door also seem to close suddenly.

A similar incident also took place in Yinchuan, north-west China.

The second piece of footage shows a young girl edging sideways along a narrow ledge.

Moments later, she is seen running along outside the apartment block.

She is so high – the footage shows – that she is above the nearby tree line.

Staff at the property reportedly paid the family a visit the following day, presumably to admonish the girl and her parents for the youngster’s reckless actions.

The girl was reportedly one of three children at home at the time and she is believed to have climbed out of a window while her parents were not looking.
