A cute little dog has died while defending a four-year-old boy from an attack by six rampant wild boar near Barcelona.
The incident took place in the borough of Sant Vicenc dels Hort in the eastern Spanish province of Barcelona while the boy was arriving home from the park with his dog and father.
The child’s father David Jesus Diaz Tolra said on social media that six wild boar attacked his son outside their front door and the small dog managed to fend them off.
He said: “I want to report the unfair death of my little 10-year-old dog, attacked by six wild boar outside the front door of my home.”
Diaz Tolra told local media: “That day, the dog, which was in front of us on a lead, saw a wild boar about to attack my son.”
The dad claimed that dog rushed to defend the boy and during the confused scenes, he grabbed the four-year-old and ran away.
Once his son was in a safe place, he went back for the dog but found it on the ground in a bad way.
According to Diaz Tolra, a resident saw the dog fighting the boar and intervened by hitting them with sticks.
He added: “A guy helped the dog and we carried it to the vets, but we were told that he was seriously injured.”
According to local media, the brave pooch died in the veterinary clinic during treatment.
Reports said that locals have been complaining about the presence of wild boar in the area for a while.
It is unclear whether the local authorities will investigate the claims of a rising wild boar problem in the Spanish borough.
