This is the moment a hero cop performs mouth-to-mouth resuscitation on a newborn baby reportedly without her vital signs – saving the child’s life.

The incident took place at a house in the neighbourhood of Tocaimita, in the town of Usme, in the city of Bogota, Colombian capital after officers Pablo Alejandro Rojas Boyaca and Ezequiel David Murgas Pinto were called to the scene.

The emergency services had received a call saying a newborn baby was not breathing and when the officers arrived the baby girl reportedly did not have vital signs.

Officer Boyaca said the pair were not given a friendly welcome by the family who lamented that “the police always arrive late as the baby was dead”.

Boyaca confirmed the tot did not have vital signs and called the emergency services who gave him instructions on how to perform mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

In the video, the officer can be seen performing the resuscitation as one woman holds the umbilical cord and another holds a phone to his ear.

The tot eventually began breathing again and Boyaca said: “It is a huge joy to help this mum and her baby.”

An ambulance was sent to the scene and mother and baby were taken to the Meissen Hospital.

The mother, a Venezuelan national, and her baby are both in a stable condition.

Bogota Police wrote on social media: “Today we highlight the heroic behaviour of our officer Pablo Rojas, being an example for the whole country for the value of life. Thanks to his vocation to serve, he saved the life of a newborn girl in Usme.”

‘NidiaMo56145027’ commented: “God, what a blessing, thanks mate, God bless your work”.

And ‘SoldadosDeLibe1’ added: “This is a real hero, a cop carrying out his mission of serving and protecting citizens. This is a cop close to the citizens”.
