Kindhearted netizens are raising money for a homeless man after photos of him grieving over his run-over dog in the road were widely shared on Facebook.

The homeless man, identified as Raul from the city of Morelia in the western Mexican state of Michoacan, was photographed while crying in the middle of the road next to the body of his pet dog Solovino.

According to local media, Raul helped residents to find parking spaces for small change and was always accompanied by Solovino who followed him everywhere.

However, the dog was hit by a car at around 10pm on Camelinas de Morelia Avenue and the homeless man was snapped sobbing by the animal’s limp body.

After initially refusing the help of passersby in his moment of distress, Raul eventually allowed several women to help him bury his beloved dog, according to reports.

The incident was widely shared on social media and netizens have organised a fundraising campaign to buy food and clothes for the upset homeless man.

One local restaurant owner said: “We regret the loss of Raul’s loyal friend as, despite his difficult situation, he is a very kind and hardworking person who helps us to take care of parked cars in the vicinity of the restaurant.”

Netizen ‘Gabii Pliego’ commented: “What a noble person he is, we need people like him in the world. He found some happiness with his loyal friend Solovino and now… God bless this man.”
