This is the moment a Mercedes SUV is dropped from around 1,000 feet by a helicopter as the forfeit of a bet between two Russian businessmen wrangling over a major contract.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class was intentionally dropped from a helicopter above a remote forest near the city of Petrozavodsk in the north-western Russian republic of Karelia.

In the footage of the helicopter dropping the SUV, an eyewitness is heard asking another man: “What height do you think that is?”

The man replies “about 300 metres (984 feet)” just before the Merc plummets from the sky and lands in the treeline.

According to local media, two men arrived at the Peski Airport to rent a helicopter and paid 250,000 RUB (3,090 GBP) for a 20-minute flight.

An airport spokesperson said: “They came, paid their money, put a ‘moroz’ (‘frost’) sticker on the helicopter and attached the Mercedes to it before taking off.

“The chopper rose to a height of approximately 1,000 feet and dropped the SUV to one side of the airport away from the runway.”

The businessmen could not carry out the forfeit in Moscow so they travelled to Karelia to do it.
