This is the heartless moment a man abandons his cute dog by tying her to railings and then drives off in his car.

The incident was caught on CCTV cameras in the resort city of Palma on the popular island of Majorca in the Spanish Balearic Islands.

The footage shows the man drive up in his car, get out with the dog on a lead and walk towards some railings before disappearing from view.

He reappears seconds later, without the dog, jumps back into his car and drives off at speed.

The dog, a three-year-old mongrel named Luna, was found by police still tied to the railings by her lead.

Smartphone footage shows Luna, looking bright and friendly, in the arms of a police officer.

A police spokesman said: “For everyone who met Luna, it is difficult to imagine why anyone would want to get rid of her. She is incredibly sweet, loving and playful.”

Cops have been able to identify the man, who has not been named in reports, from the video and say he will now face police action.

Luna has been taken to the Centre for Animal Protection in Palma where staff are trying to find a new family to adopt her.

Netizen ‘Mar Fiol Fernandez’ commented: “We call ourselves humans but we have a lot to learn from the animals.”

And ‘Michael Jasson’ added: “I hope that his inhuman will be found and receives a big punishment.”
