A 107-year-old man and his 90-year-old wife of more than 65 years have both died of natural causes within 13 hours of each other.

The incident took place in Ras Al Khaimah, the northernmost emirate in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and the married couple were interred together at Kheb Cemetery.

According to local media, the couple, identified as Ghazi Ali, 107, and Wadi Ghalilah, 90, had been married for over 65 years.

An unnamed relative told local media: “Each of them, although quite unwell, had been taking care of one another in love.”

The family member, who said they lived around 40 kilometres (25 miles) north of the centre of Ras Al Khaimah, often abbreviated to RAK City, added: “The senior Emirati man, born in 1913, took his last breath on Monday at 5.30pm.”

The couple’s grandson Mohamad Al Shehi told local media that the 107-year-old man had been suffering with a number of age-related ailments.

He continued: “However, he couldn’t go on when he heard that his wife died on the same day at around 4am.”

Funeral director Abed Al Marzouqi said that the couple had been buried in the same grave at Kheb Cemetery, just north of Ras Al Khaimah.

He told local media: The wife was buried first on Monday 3rd February 2020 at 9am and her husband was subsequently buried alongside her on Tuesday after Fajr prayer.”
