This is the moment a have-a-go hero is gunned down in a dramatic gun battle when he opened fire on two armed robbers aboard a bus.

The incident was filmed in the city of Tlalnepantla de Baez in the central Mexican state of Mexico and shows the moment two assailants casually get on the bus and sit down with the other passengers.

One of the men is then seen removing a gun and threatening the passengers before moving towards the driver.

Then a gunshot rings out and appears to hit the robber in the back. Meanwhile, his accomplice returns fire and three shots fill the air.

The driver stops the bus and the injured accomplice is dragged out of the vehicle by his colleague as the have-a-go hero is heard groaning on the floor.

At the end of the video, the motionless man is seen lying face-down on the floor as the bus moves off.

According to local media, the bus driver allowed the passengers to disembark further along the road before taking the injured man to hospital.

Sadly, the have-a-go hero reportedly died before the bus driver could reach the hospital.

Local media said that another passenger needed medical treatment following the incident.

Meanwhile, it is unclear whether the robber sustained serious or fatal injuries in the shootout.

The police have yet to make any arrests as the investigation continues.
