This is the moment a thief reportedly from France in a hoodie drags a woman along the floor in a shopping centre while trying to steal her handbag before a have-a-go hero trips him up.

The incident was filmed in a shopping centre in the municipality of la Jonquera in the province of Girona in the north-eastern Spanish region of Catalonia.

The footage shows the French man in a hoodie walking behind a woman in a shopping centre and suddenly yanking at her bag.

The woman resists the robbery and is violently dragged along the floor by the robber.

A woman then kicks the thug while he man continues dragging the victim over the floor and into a shop.

Then the robber lets go of the bag and starts running away, but he is tripped up by a have-a-go hero.

The woman is seen sitting on a bench, visibly upset by the robbery attempt, while the suspect remains motionless on the floor surrounded by a crowd of people.

Afterwards, reports said that the robber took advantage of a moment of confusion when security guards were on the way to the scene and managed to run out of the shopping centre.

However, he was promptly detained by members of the Mossos d’Esquadra (Catalan police).

The unnamed suspect is a 25-year-old man from France, according to local media.

The robber was reportedly charged and released on bail.
