This is the moment neighbours climb up a building to rescue a 70-year-old man hanging from a balcony and they manage to safely drop him onto a mattress below.

The startling scene took place on San Jose in the municipality of Fuenlabrada on the outskirts of the Spanish city Madrid after the man, named in reports as Juan Pena, was left hanging from the second-floor balcony of his house.

In the video, two local residents, one of whom has been named as Ibrahim, 20, can be seen climbing up the building to reach the OAP who is being held onto by two women.

One of the men climbing the building grabs Pena’s foot while another supports his torso.

The two women, losing strength, the begin lowering Pena down as other residents gather below with a mattress.

One of the women can be heard saying “dad, look at me, open your eyes”,

Pena is then slowly lowered down the front of the building before being safely dropped onto the mattress as onlookers applaud.

It is unclear why Pena was hanging from the balcony but local media report he was not injured in the incident.
