Hands Reach Out From Rubble As 88 Hurt In Pub Collapse

This is the moment rescue workers reach out to grab hands poking out from underneath the rubble after a terrace bar roof collapsed killing two and injuring 88.

The accident happened at the ‘0776’ rooftop bar above The Mixc shopping centre in Baise’s Youjiang District in China’s southern Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.

Several hundred rescuers were sent to the popular shopping complex after the fire service received reports of the accident at roughly 1am local time today (20th May).

As of 10am local time, a total of 88 people had been rescued from the rubble of the rooftop bar.

According to emergency management officials, two died as a result of fatal injuries during the accident, while one patron remains in critical condition and 13 others are severely injured.

A further 58 are still hospitalised for varying degrees of injury, while 14 have already been discharged from care.

A large-scale rescue operation involving more than 800 personnel is still ongoing as the search for further victims continues.

What remains of the 7500-square-foot bar is also being secured in order for further investigators to be carried into the cause behind the accident.

Accordingly to Chinese state media, 0776 is located at the top of the two-storey shopping centre.
