This is the moment a gutsy young woman knocks her boyfriend twice her size to the ground with a punch and then throws a chair at him after he grabs her face.

The incident, which has been widely shared on various social media platforms, was filmed by a CCTV camera outside a small restaurant in the city of Esmeraldas in the northern Ecuadorian canton of the same name, and the footage was shared on Facebook on 31st October.

In the video, the young couple is seen arguing at their restaurant table before the man shoves his hand into his girlfriend’s face and pushes her head.

The furious woman springs to her feet and apparently lands a right hand on her boyfriend’s face.

She follows up with another right hook to the face and the man, apparently shaken, falls backwards and lands on the street.

The young woman points her finger at him before picking up a chair and launching it at him as he lies on the ground.

The burly man then walks away as the woman keeps shouting at him.

The footage ends with the woman walking along the pavement in the opposite direction to her dinner date.

According to the country’s Registro Unico de la Violencia (Domestic Violence Registry), Ecuador has one of the highest rates of gender violence in Latin America with over 10,000 calls registered to the emergency services since the start of COVID-19 confinement.

In September, Ecuadorian president Guillermo Lasso introduced the National System for the Eradication of Gender Violence, pointing out that these cases of violence violate human rights.
