This is the shocking moment an unarmed brawler takes on a machete-wielding man outside a supermarket and is slashed several times.

According to local media, the fight was between the 32-year-old machete wielder, whose name was not disclosed, and 33-year-old Lucas Colman, who was hospitalised with cuts to his neck, chest, arms and legs.

The incident took place in the borough of Melchor Romero in the eastern Argentine province of Buenos Aires and was filmed by a supermarket CCTV camera.

In the footage, the suspect is seen swinging his machete at Colman who defends himself by going on the offensive and forcing the knifeman to backpedal.

However, Colman appears to be stabbed multiple times despite momentarily overpowering the suspect and sending him to the ground.

The machete-wielder manages to send Colman crashing to the tarmac and then stands over him, slashing him twice with the large blade before walking away.

The victim was rushed to hospital while the knifeman fled the scene.

Reports said that the fight followed an earlier row between the two Argentine men.

Investigators arrested the suspect after checking a local residence. They also found the clothes he may have been wearing during the machete attack, but it is unclear whether they have found the weapon used.

Leading prosecutor Ana Medina has charged the suspect with attempted homicide, according to reports.

The investigation continues.
