The hilarious moment was filmed in the city of Jiaxing in the Chinese province of Zhejiang and the footage has been widely shared on the social network Douyin, which is what TikTok is known as in China.

According to the news site Weibo, the father of the bride thought it would be a funny idea to take his daughter’s place during a wedding run-through.

He threw on his daughter’s veil and waited for the groom to arrive with flowers to kiss his blushing bride. However, all the filming guests were in on the joke.

In the footage, the guests are seen smiling as the groom leans in to kiss his veiled bride.

He plants a smacker on the covered person’s face and several people let out a laugh.

The groom seems to realise he is the butt of a joke and apparently guesses correctly that his father-in-law is behind the stunt.

The groom lifts the veil from his bride’s face only to reveal his giggling father-in-law.
