A Greek girl who wrote to the country’s prime minister complaining about being robbed of her birthday celebration, as well as a number of other holidays, has received a personal reply.

Elisabeth, 10, from the city of Igoumenitsa in the western Greek region of Thesprotia, sent a letter to Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, 52, after the government announced tougher lockdown restrictions to curb the spread of COVID-19.

In the letter, the schoolgirl expressed her concerns that such measures would spoil her birthday.

The note read: “I am writing this letter to you because it is my birthday in 26 days and I am worried that if you put us in lockdown I will not be able to have a party.

“My friends will not be able to come and so I will be alone and my birthday will suck. So, if you intend to quarantine us again, know that you owe me my birthday.”

The schoolgirl then went on to list all the other days she thinks the PM owes her, including Carnival, Easter, and May Day.

She finished off with: “Waiting for your reply.”

The letter apparently moved the PM so much he replied with a handwritten note of his own.

Mitsotakis said: “I’m very sorry that the lockdown will ruin your plans but you must understand that it is done to protect those we love most.”

The PM added: “I wish you a happy birthday and I am sure that next year you will have the biggest and most beautiful celebration.”
