This young Kazakh designer has wowed US star Ariana Grande with this improvised version of her famous Met Gala 2018 dress that was even shared by the singer and original designer Vera Wang.

Danira Kakimova from the northern Kazakh capital Nur-Sultan came across the online ‘Met Gala Challenge’ where netizens have to copy the look of a famous celebrity who attended the annual fundraising gala.

Kakimova, 24, decided to imitate the dress worn by American pop star Ariana Grande, 26, at the 2018 Met Gala which was designed by US fashion designer Vera Wang.

The budding Kazakh designer told CEN that this was the first dress she ever made and that she finished it in less than an hour.

Kakimova said: “I had to hurry up and make the dress before posting a photo online. I made it with materials I had lying around, a corset, curtains, a bow from a silk scarf, stickers. It was finished in an hour.”

Just a few hours after posting a photo of the imitation dress on Instagram, US fashion designer Vera Wang contacted her personally to call it “wonderful”.

Kakimova was blown away again when Ariana Grande shared the photos.

She said: “I was really happy and excited because I have loved Ariana since 2017. I woke up in the morning and all my followers told me that she had shared my post in her Stories! It may be trifle to some, but not for me. Ariana fans will understand what I mean.”
