This is the moment an MP gives the Mexican Security Secretary a Pinocchio doll in reference to his contradictory statements regarding the arrest of El Chapo’s son Ovidio Guzman.

The incident was filmed when the Mexican Security and Civil Protection Secretary Alfonso Durazo was appearing in front of the Senate Public Security Committee.

According to local media, Senator Indira de Jesus Rosales gave the Pinocchio doll to Durazo to suggest he had made contradictory statements regarding the arrest of El Chapo’s son Ovidio Guzman on 17th October.

Reports said that Ovidio Guzman was detained on 17th October during a confrontation between the police and supporters of the Sinaloa Cartel in the city of Culiacan.

Alleged gang members loyal to Guzman then caused chaos on the streets and El Chapo’s 28-year-old son was promptly released by the authorities, according to local media.

Reports said that several senators stood in the chamber with a posters of Pinocchio and the word ‘miente’ (‘lie’) in protest at the apparent lack of transparency regarding Guzman’s release.

Senator Minerva Hernandez said: “The Morena government is one that has agreed to lie, violate the law, cover up its ineptitude and construct a new historical truth around the disaster called Culiacan.”

Reports said that Durazo told the Senate that the “constantly changing facts modified the information given to the public, but there was never any intention of fraud”.

The session finished with De Jesus Rosales asking questions to Durazo, who refused to accept the Pinocchio doll, according to local media.
