This video seen over 40 million times in less than 48 hours shows a mystery man giving a police station some 500 surgical masks before running away without explaining.
The act of kindness, revealed by authorities in Lu’an City in East China’s Anhui Province, comes as masks sell out and fears of shortages grow amid the rapid spread of the novel coronavirus.
CCTV images dated 27th January show officers manning the front desk of Xiaohuashan Police Station when the unidentified walks in carrying a stack of boxes in his arms.

He drops the masks, of which there were said to be more than 500, on the desk and immediately turns to leave after reportedly uttering the phrase: “Thank you for your hard work!”
Surprised officers chase after the man who only turns to wave before disappearing into the passenger seat of an awaiting car.
Two officers can be seen saluting the man as the video ends.
Authorities in Lu’an, which is about 185 miles from Hubei provincial capital Wuhan, were still trying to track down the mysterious Good Samaritan, who apparently feared the officers would run out of surgical masks.
The Wuhan coronavirus has killed 132 people in China and infected nearly 6,000, the latest figures show.
There is an ongoing debate over whether face masks are truly an effective safeguard against the contagious respiratory virus.
In mainland China surgical mask manufacturers are working around the clock to restock hospitals and pharmacies.
The UK Foreign Office has warned against travel to China.
