Chernivtsi councillor Ivan Muntean said on social media that the huge hailstones destroyed 70 percent of the roof of Storozhynetskaya Secondary School No. 1 while windows were also smashed.
Meanwhile, the storm also reportedly flooded the fourth floor of the district hospital.
According to the local authorities, the roofs of four educational institutions and at least 12 residential homes were also damaged by the bad weather.
Reports said that at least 26 homes in the area are still without electricity.
Muntean added: “Tomorrow, I will meet with the heads of the region’s forestry industry and ask them to provide timber to restore roofs and damaged buildings.
“If we do not fix the roofs of the schools, the new term will be disrupted and this cannot be allowed to happen.”
